Poseidon MKVI Level 1

The Poseidon MKVI is a fully-closed, electronically controlled rebreather aimed at satisfying the needs of recreational, sport divers.

It uses very advanced electronics to perform multiple system tests to check the unit both before and during the dive. The user is freed up from many tasks that have to be performed manually with most CCR’s allowing the diver to just enjoy the dive.

Multiple warning systems draw the diver’s attention back to the unit if necessary and internal diagnostics indicate the nature of the problem and instruct the user as to what action to take. Dual tissue tension storage, a “smart” battery, HUD system, automatic setpoint control and sensor linearity validation are just a few aspects of the electronics package. A CC/OC mouthpiece with vibrator alarm ensures an easy-to-use bail-out option.

The training reflects the standards required by the manufacturer of the rebreather. IART is authorized by the manufacturer to conduct this training. The course manual is constantly revised and improved in consultation with the
manufacturer to reflect new developments resulting from technical improvements or gained through dive experience. You will receive the current edition from your IART Poseidon MKVI Instructor.

Theory Presentation

  • review of nitrox theory, physics and physiology
  • Familiarisation with all rebreather components
  • Dive planning, execution and emergency procedures
  • A written exam concludes the theoretical development

Practical training

  • Unit preparation, pre-dive checks
  • Disassembly, cleaning and disinfection
  • Dive planning
  • Dive techniques in confined water followed by open water environments
  • Protocol in emergency situations
  • Proof of successful completion of all required training exercises.

The course “POSEIDON MKVI CCR user – Level 1” trains and certifies the user to dive within no-decompression limits to a maximum depth of 40 metres.

Poseidon MKVI Level 1 Standards

  1. Course: Closed Circuit Rebreather Diver level I (CCR I). No decompression dives. Air diluent
  2. Course objectives: This course develops in the participant, the required abilities, knowledge and techniques to dive responsibly with the closed circuit Poseidon MKVI rebreather to a maximum depth of 40 metres and within nodecompression limits. After successful completion of the course the participant is granted the permission to dive with and purchase the Poseidon MKVI CCR.
  3. Pre-requisites: 50 logged dives, IART OWND diver or equivalent qualification, (PADI AOWD + Nitrox Diver certification) and a valid diving medical.
  4. Course content/duration: All theoretical und practical aspects of diving with the Poseidon MK VI as described in the IART-manual. In addition to time spent by the participant reading through the manual, the course duration is generally four-five days. It covers, in addition to extending and deepening the theoretical knowledge of the participant, training in pool/confined water and open water not less than 4 dives and a minimum of 300 minutes total in-water time. The instructor : student ratio is not permitted to exceed 1:2.
  5. Training aides: IART Poseidon MK VI manual Level I, IART UW prompt cards, IART Powerpoint presentation, personal instructor materials, air/nitrox dive tables
  6. Mandatory equipment: Poseidon MkVI rebreather fitted with octopus. Waterproof pre-dive checklist. Suit and ancillary thermal protection suitable to the environment, bail-out stage cylinder und regulator with min. 600 litres supply, (optional: slate and pencil, back-up dive computer or depth gauge and timer).
  7. Limits: max depth Pool/confined water: 5m. OW dive 1: max. 10m, OW dives 2 + 3: min. 10m – max 20m, OW dives 4: min. 15m – max. 30m. Nodecompression CCR dives planned to remain within limits of O/C nitrox tables.
  8. Dive skills: all skills contained in the IART CCR Level I manual must be taught and performed according to the required standards.
  9. Requirements for certification: Following completion of the theory lessons a written test must be passed. After successful demonstration of all required practical diving skills the certification is documented by the issue of a certificate and a positive identification card (PIC). In accordance with IART quality control, both the participant and instructor must sign the appropriate training protocol. The Instructor must retain this protocol with the student’s other training documents.
