No-stop times at depths shallower than 30 metres still allow a diver to have a reasonable dive with enough bottom time to explore the dive site but beyond this the available no-stop time to enjoy deeper, more intact wrecks and less-visited deep reefs is simply too short!
Decompression techniques allow the diver to go deeper and still enjoy enough bottom time to make the dive worthwhile. A well-equipped buddy pair often have the wreck to themselves after the rest have left for shallower depths after only a few minutes.
During your IART Decompression Diver training you will be given the opportunity to acquire the required abilities, knowledge and techniques to dive responsibly in the realm of decompression dives using best mix Nitrox as bottom gas to a maximum depth of 40m and you will receive up-to-date education aligned with the currently accepted methods and guidelines with respect to:
- physiological factors
- possible dangers and mistakes
- dive planning
- handling of equipment
- practical dive conduct
This objective will be achieved through both theoretical and practical training modules.

- Physiological considerations (E.g. CNS, nitrogen narcosis, hypercapnia, hypoxia and hyperoxia under extreme conditions)
- Legal requirements and regulations
- Decompression sickness
- Dive planning and execution
- Emergency management
- Diving physics and physiology
- Examples of equipment configuration
- Decompression planning
- Gas managemenT
The practical part of the course includes 4 open water dives over at least 3 days with a minimum accumulated open water dive time of 180 minutes.
